Implemented Projects
Project “Success Through Knowledge and Skills” within the programme “Knowledge, success, change” for 2001-2002 of the “workshop for Citizen’s Initiatives” Foundation. The project has been implemented during the period 01.09.2001 – 31.12.2001.
Major goal: to acquire knowledge and form practical skills for work for 30 young Roma from the town of Senovo by sewing and masonry training courses.
Result: 30 young Roma trained in sewing and masonry skills; agreement with the Employment Office in Vetovo for organising of sewing and masonry qualification courses for the same youths.
Project “The School – Media for Initiating and Inter-cultural Interaction” within the Programme “Inter-Ethnic Development Fund”, 2001 round, of the “Inter-ethnic Initiative for Human Rights” Foundation, Sofia.
Major goal: Integration of the Roma children to the natural socialising media of the school and contribution to mutual understanding, tolerance and mutual enrichment of the cultures of the various ethnic groups in the town of Senovo and the village of Krivnya in the Vetovo Municipality region.
Result: Eight 12-13 years-old children who have never been to school before were successfully enrolled in the educational system; three returned to the 2nd and the 3rd grades, one – to the 8th grade who continued his schooling in the Secondary Professional School – Vetovo; not a single Roma child did not drop out from the school in the village of Krivnya; expanded school facilities that continued to provide interesting out-of-class activities to the children.
Project “Local development of the Roma community in the town of Senovo” with the financial support of Rabobank, The Netherlands, the United Dutch Churches and Spolu International Foundation, The Netherlands. Implemented during 2001 – 2002.
Goal: To improve the social and economic status of the Roma community in the town of Senovo by starting of community development and income generating activities.
Major results:
• Roma cooperative incorporated
• Established material premises and facilities of the cooperative
• Vehicles and tractor driving courses for youths
• 13 Roma families received land from the Government Land Fund.
Project for income generating activities for Roma families through the setting up of small family farms, with the financial support of Spolu International Foundation, The Netherlands and the United Dutch Churches.
Goal: to create permanent employment for Roma families through livestock breeding.
Major results:
- revolving fund established within Integro Cooperative
- 10 families received funds to buy sheep
- 85 sheep bought
- increased sense of responsibility and self-organising capacities.
Project: refurbishment of a Roma community centre building, with the financial support of the United Dutch Foundations.
Goal: to refurbish premises to be used for a community centre in order to increase the possibilities for community development of the Roma from the town of Senovo and the Vetovo municipality region.
Results:
• office for the community workers;
• a room for work with the community – consultations, coaching, motivation, provision of all sorts of support and assistance by experts;
The following activities are organised in the community centre:
• consultations on social, legal, health and educational issues for the Roma community;
• information and directing to other offices and institutions;
• methodological and technical assistance in filling in for forms and documents;
• intermediary activity and advocacy before local and regional authorities and institutions;
• support, coordination and implementation of the community development activities;
• working meetings of the Association’s team and activists
• general meetings of Integro-Senovo and Integro Cooperative.
Project “Development through legal education” within the programme “Minority Rights Group International”, Great Britain
Main results:
• Increased awareness of 50 minority youths on human rights.
• Developed skills to analyse their environment and to identify problems concerning large group of people.
• Developed ideas on the municipal and government institutions in the region
• Understood the municipal organisational structures and their major functions as well as what expectations to have from the local authorities.
• The participants’ self-esteem as well as their citizen’s positions increased.
• Bigger awareness of the young people’s problems in the region.
• A youth group with Association Integro was formed up.
Project “Centre for Alternative Social Services” within a programme of the Department for International Development of the Embassy of Great Britain.
Major goal: To develop an overall municipal strategy for social activities and to increase the capacity of the Vetovo Municipality to apply contemporary methods of social work.
Project achievements: carried out a cycle of trainings in modern social work; increased information to 20 employees of the municipal administration and local government institutions for possibilities to work using the interdisciplinary approach and inter-institutional interaction; developed strategy for municipal social activities based in the community; adopted decisions by the Municipal Council for the establishment of new capacities for social activities based in the community.
Project “Our Environmental Heritage – Our Future” within the programme “Living Heritage”-2003 of “Workshop for Citizens Initiatives” Foundation, Sofia.
Main results: Provided opportunity to 12 people from the region to get acquainted and acquire skills in honey-bee breeding with the aim to start up their own small business; expanding the base for cooperation between the Municipality and the NGO sector; established 3 new NGOs on the territory of the municipality.
